Today on another encore episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to Jason Everly, son of Phil, nephew of Don. Yes, we are talking about The Everly Brothers and all things Everly. Our conversation with Jason happened after a chance listen to Sirius XM satellite radio where we came across Jason’s DJ stint on Fifties Gold talking about, what else, his connection to his family’s music. That’s when it hit us – Jason went to middle school with our host, Josh Mills and more than likely was in our carpool at one point too. We had photographic evidence too – from the Oakwood School yearbook. This conversation had to happen.
Thankfully when we reached out to Jason, he was not only receptive to being a guest on the podcast but he was kinda psyched as well. Our chat was a little bit memory lane, a little bit nostalgia and a lot of fun. We learned about the bond Phil and Jason had – playing made up games together and how his Phil let his kids do their thing in the back yard, much to the chagrin of his neighbors. We also learned how his dad was a bit of a taskmaster as well as some insane stories involving Paul Simon, Warren Zevon, Graham Nash, Billy Joel and Paul McCartney who all adored The Everly Brothers.
But perhaps our favorite part of the podcast was talking with Jason about his role in a little known Filipino film back in the 90s that he couldn’t believe we dug up. Let’s just say, it holds a ‘special’ place in his heart. Moreover, after our episode, we connected a few dots and Jason started his own podcast, Vinyl History which you can check out on YouTube.
